At this point, you're 90 miles from Cuba and 157 miles from the nearest Walmart -- which, for the mathematically-challenged, means you're closer to Cuba than to Walmart.

A quick bit of science:

I saw on the History Channel that one of the contributing factors in the Florida Keys' creation was, ironically, an ice age.

Geologists believe that the weight of the ice on the northern part of our continental shelf was so great that it pushed the southern end up out of the water a little bit. That combined with receding shorelines due to glacier formations, and we have land-ho down south.
